Brief Idea Regarding Custom Designed Locks

Customers can design locks according to their requirements that we refer as custom made locks. A customer approaches a lock manufacturer to design a lock according to his need.

However, there is nothing called "Off the Shelf" lock that will fit the needs of a customer. The customers should present some ideas to how they want to make their lock in order of their security and also the quantity required. Below are some important factors:

Type of HON Keys design that is required

The level of security required by the lock

Type of materials required to make the lock

Time limit required

Necessary tooling required

Once you are done with some early questions then the estimate of lock cost and estimate of tooling cost should be discussed but the major factor is the quantity that is needed. 5,000 to 10,000 is the standard initial run. The lock becomes less expensive if the number is large.

Once they start the designing process drawings of the lock are sent periodically to the customers unless they are satisfied with what they want. Once the customer is satisfied with the design it is then designed and made.

From there onwards a small run is sent to the customer to ensure that it works according to them. At this point you can make certain modifications. The main production run is started after the approval of the customer.

During the production run of the ESP Lock the manufacturer will usually preform quality control so that he can make sure the lock is within specifications.

The above stated things may sound like an easy process but it's not. It can take 6 to 9 months for a complex design and at least 3 months for a simple design. The whole process can become expensive when the design is complex.

Custom design locks are not considered by many manufactures as they think that it disrupts their manufacturing process. Many manufacturers require a very large up-front depositing in order to cover their costs if the customer backs out.
